Texas Cooking: It's A Whole Other Cuisine!
Published in Hardcover by Dockery House Publishing (01 November, 2001)
Average review score:

Good recipes, great photosLots of Texas-themed food here, and recipes from famous people and restaurants. Some are really gourmet, others are stuff anyone could make, like your basic Texas bbq. Even though it's mostly a cookbook, I thought the best part was all the photos of Texas scenery. Very nice.

enjoying Texas TortesGet this book. The recipes are wonderful and well written. No Blah-blah. There are tidy little illustrations, and a nice section of basic components that are used throughout the book.
I bought the book at the annual UT press sale, where the employees said "He's been bringing us samples an they are wonderful!"

Texas Women Writers: A Tradition of Their Own (Tarleton State University Southwestern Studies in the Humanities , No 8)
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (August, 1997)
Average review score:

A timely introspection of some literary women of TexasThe enveloping pace of this book is wonderfully integrated with information. I was delighted to recognize authors I did not know had Texas roots. My out-of-state visitors also found authors they had read and loved, and in one instance, knew personally. It is time to recognize the past and present talent in Texas. This book's charm is not limited to Texans, or women only.

That Back Road in
Published in Paperback by Bookpeople (April, 1985)
Average review score:

A Poetic Survey of the Southwest High DesertThis is one of John Brandi's poetry collections, published fairly early in his career, that remains one of his most popular. Edward Abbey said of the work: "Good strong simple poems, quietly eloquent, shapely as snowflakes." Gary Snyder called this book "a guide to go where it says: "Back in." The poems certainly do point the way into a magical and remote hinterland, its Native American people, its starlit expanses and surreal outcrops. Brandi's forays into the desert hinterland known as "Four Corners" are balanced by some wonderful domestic poems: love poems; beautiful celebrations of family; tender poems to children. A classic collection, enahanced by a sampling of Brandi's whimsical illustrations, which he calls "word maps."

nice watercolors - unusual viewpointThis book talks about the world view of an American Indian child - talking about their house, their yard, their pets, their world. The watercolors are colorful and light. The book is beautifully printed and is a precious item to own. For parents interested in introducing their children to various points of view this is perfect.
